Time to Come Home

Singapore finally started VTL flights (flights that don't require passengers to quarantine once they reach Singapore) with Canada.  More than flying to Singapore, what really touched me was everyone's reactions to this. Due to the time difference, I was sleeping when Singapore announced this. I woke up in the morning to a string of messages from friends and family alike, sending me the newspaper article and telling me to come back. The most touching of course, from my own parents. Simple and short: Time to Come Home

Homesick

It's been more than 1.5 years since I've gone back to Singapore...  covid really messed things up. I felt the weather changing in the past 2 days, from summer back to cold winds that are a strong indication that fall is here (and winter close behind). The feeling of winter still fills my soul with dread, and makes me miss my home, my Singapore so very much more. When will I see you again my sunny island in the sun?

Food Glorious Food

I have to admit, over the years of staying in Canada, I have found that the number of SEA food, including Singaporean food of course, is on a rise. Things I couldn't find 5 years ago, I can find now. Only thing I still can't find?? MAGGI CHILLI SAUCE!

Facts about Singapore

I don't understand when people drop in 'facts' about Singapore in a conversation with me with such confidence, and then if I tell them that their fact isn't entirely right, they argue with me about it. Remind me who lived in Singapore her whole life and has more knowledge about Singapore? It can just be so infuriating sometimes...

Emergency Brake

That's what the newest lockdown in Ontario is being named. It seems cases are getting out of hand. Singapore feels further and further away with each passing day...

Quarantine Life

Can be a very dark place... Feeling so far away from my family...

To Travel or Not to Travel

Never before has the topic of travel been of such controversy. People are still traveling, there is no doubt, and it is difficult for authorities to determine whether the travel should be considered essential or not. If someone is traveling to visit their elderly parents because they haven't seen them in more than 2 years since the pandemic started, would that be considered essential or not? And if it isn't considered essential, isn't that just... inhumane? I did travel, to attend my sister's wedding. Met my whole family and just felt so much better and rejuvenated. But when the time came to say goodbye, my mom cried and asked me: My darling, when will I see you again? To say my heart broke is an understatement. In these circumstances, who can say when we will ever travel to meet family again?
